Kara melted into the kiss. She stroked Cam’s hair, letting the loose strands flow through her fingers like ebony silk. God, how she loved that hair.

“So, Dr. Black Wolf, do I have a fever?”

Cam laid the back of her hand against Kara’s forehead. A small smile turned up the corners of her mouth. “I’m sure you do.”

“Oh,” she fanned herself. “I think I’m feeling faint.”

A stricken look crossed Cam’s face. She shifted away from Kara. “Maybe the wine was a bad idea.”

Kara reached over and pulled her close. “Relax, Doc. It’s all good but if you’re really worried, maybe you should do an exam?”

“I’m a vet, you know—”

“Très kinky! Come on.” Kara stood and pulled Cam up. “Lead the way to the exam room.”

Cam hesitated. “Are you sure?”

Kara put her hands on her hips. “Are you going to tell me you’re not interested?”

“Oh, hell, no!” Cam grabbed her hand and pulled her up a set of stairs and into a bedroom at the far end of the hallway.

The bed wasn’t big but it was big enough. Kara dropped her clothes just inside the doorway. She wasn’t sure what it was about the last few days, but any reserve she might have had before Cam showed up in her life disappeared in a heartbeat. They were adults, they were alone, and they wanted each other. Sometimes letting go of everything except the moment was exactly the right thing to do.

“God, you’re beautiful,” Cam said as she rested her back against the door and watched her.

“You’re not too bad yourself, even if you are all dressed up.”

“Are you sure?” Cam’s voice was still full of doubt.

Kara smiled and stretched out on the bed. “Hum, let me see. I’m naked. I’m on a bed. What do you think?”

Cam didn’t say anything, just sent her jeans and shirt flying. As she walked to the bed, she slipped out of her underwear and bra. She was hot in her clothes but out of them? She was gorgeous. Slim hips, small breasts, and beautiful coffee-and-cream-colored skin. Her straight black hair fell down her back almost to her waist. It was like a sheet of black satin that made Kara’s hands itch to touch it.

At the edge of the bed, Cam paused and stared down at Kara. Her eyes were so black, they were like obsidian. Under different circumstances, she didn’t doubt they could be scary. Right now, they were sexy as hell. She took Cam’s hand, tugging on it.

“If you don’t want to, it’s okay. I won’t lie, I’ll be disappointed, but I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.” She hoped Cam wanted to do this as much as she did.

At Kara’s insistent tug, Cam lowered herself next to the bed and wrapped her arms around her. She kissed the top of Kara’s head. “I totally want to do this.”

Her words were tinged with something Kara couldn’t quite put her finger on. “I hear a but in there.”

Cam sighed. “I’m worried it’s not the right thing to do.
